Potential Use of Turmeric in COVID‐19

Turmeric is a plant that contains curcumin, the main component of turmeric. It is mainly used in food and as a spice in many countries. Curcumin has been found to be effective in treating diseases like cancer, arthritis, cardiovascular diseases and even inflammatory disorders such as Crohn's disease.

Beneficial Effects of Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice used in cooking and has beneficial effects on the body. It contains compounds that are responsible for its anti‐inflammatory properties, which can help reduce pain and inflammation. Turmeric also has antioxidant properties, which help fight against free radicals that cause cell damage. Turmeric is known to have anti‐cancer properties because it contains curcuminoids (substances that absorb light) which block certain enzymes in cancer cells while they’re still growing. This prevents them from multiplying uncontrollably, preventing cancers from developing further or spreading throughout your body! Mechanism of Action of Curcumin
Curcumin is a natural compound with potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger properties. It has been shown to have anti‐inflammatory, anti‐tumor, anti‐bacterial and anti‐fungal properties. Curcumin can inhibit the activity of various kinases and tyrosine kinases which helps in reducing inflammation caused by COVID-19 infection. Mechanism of Action of Curcumin in COVID-19 Patients Curcumin, a major component of turmeric, has been shown to have a positive effect on the immune system. It has been shown to have antiviral activity in vitro and antimicrobial activity in vitro. Curcumin also has cellular mechanisms that it affects for potential benefit to COVID-19 patients. Medicinal properties and potential use in COV‐19 Turmeric is a spice that has many medicinal properties. The active compound of turmeric, curcumin, is used in many products and treatments because it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Turmeric can be used in COVID-19 treatment as well as other types of cancer including lung, breast and colon cancer. Potential Use of Turmeric in COVID-19 Treatment Turmeric may have antiviral, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various ailments such as cardiovascular diseases, viral infections etc. With regard to SARS‐CoV‐2 infection it was observed that turmeric can inhibit virus replication by interfering with the host cell protein synthesis pathways leading to cell death [17]. Conclusion This article has discussed the potential use of curcumin in COV-19 patients. We have seen that turmeric is a promising natural product in this regard. In addition, it has been shown to have antiviral, antimicrobial, antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. This makes it an ideal candidate for treating SARS‐CoV‐2 infections as well as other viral diseases.
